September 14th, 2020

Good morning CMHS! Welcome back! It is September 14th and that means it is your

first day of school. Are you ready to take on the challenge of distance learning? Are you ready to Google Meet, learn synchronously and asynchronously, join office

hours and experience 25 minute classes? Well, I hope so because that is what we are

going to accomplish this fall. Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!

your days are going to work ....but we are still here to help. So...if you have any issues whatsoever either email me at gkappes@coupeville.k12.wa.us, or if you need

hope you were able to have some fun anyway.

CMHS students please join me in welcoming the graduating class of 2027, that's right

our 6th students! Welcome to middle school! This is a tough transition I know and all

of this is new to you, but we are all here to help, just please reach out.

I also want to recognize our Freshmen! The same goes to you...congratulations on

making it to high school! A lot of new requirements on you...we will help you keep

track of all you need to know! There are a few of you Freshmen out there who didn’t

pick up your Chromebooks...please email us and we will help arrange a pick up time.

And then...last but certainly not least, I want to recognize the CHS class of 2021...our

Seniors. I bet you have thought about your last year of school for a very long

time...and I bet you never imagined it would start like this. Please don’t worry, we are

hard at work developing some systems to help support you and recognize you as

we move through the year. And we are hard at work planning some fun activities as

the year goes on.

A few days ago I emailed all of you about how to get credit for attendance here and

with the State of Washington. To get credit, you need to watch these very

announcements as part of a Google Form that was emailed to you this morning. If

you are watching right now as part of that form, nice job and please just hit submit

when you are done. If you are watching these announcements another way, please

check your email so you can get credit!

Remember attendance is different than student engagement. The state also

requires you to engage in each of your classes every weekday. Your teachers will let

you know how to get credit in their classes.

Its the first day...Usually on the first day of school I spend the day walking the halls,

retrieving lost students, helping with lockers and checking student schedules. This

year will be a little different...You have received a lot of emails and videos about how

your days are going to work ....but we are still here to help. So...if you have any issues whatsoever either email me at gkappes@coupeville.k12.wa.us, or if you need

immediate assistance, call 360-678-2413 and we can help you right away.

There are bound to be bumps in the road, please stay positive, be flexible, and I

promise you that you will not be penalized in any way for this abnormal first day of

school.

Please do your best to enjoy your first day, enjoy meeting your teachers and

learning about what each class is going to be all about. Reach out if you have

worries or concerns or just to say hi. We can get through this, if we work together.

Those of you that have heard me read these announcements know that I have two

traditions, one is the daily Words of Wisdom, a short passage of words to think

about, which I will read in just a moment, and two is a glorious dad joke or two....so

lets start with that..Ladies and gentlemen...

CMHS Dad Joke of the Day:

How do trees access the internet?

They log in.

A sheep, a drum, and a snake fall off a cliff...Baa-dum-ssss
